Oakwood school serving as warming center after ice storm

An Oakwood school is opening its doors as a warming shelter this weekend after an ice storm knocked out power for thousands of people in the area.

Smith Elementary School, 1701 Shafor Blvd., will be open from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, according to Oakwood City Schools.

The gym, dining area of the cafeteria and restrooms will be open and visitors will be able to charge cell phones and devices.

People can enter through the school’s gym doors on the Telford Ave. side of the building.
