National Guard armory sold for $1 in effort to redevelop fairgrounds

The Board of Clark County Commissioners has sold the former National Guard armory property on Laybourne Road to the Clark County Land Reutilization Corp. for only $1.

The low price served as an effort to redevelop the nearly 4.5-acre site near the Clark County Fairgrounds, according to a press release.

"We've been working on this project for many years," said Clark County Commissioner Rick Lohnes. "We believe the land is a prime spot for redevelopment. It's near one of the busiest interstates in the country and in an area that's seen major growth over the past five years."

The county finalized an agreement to purchase the site for $125,000 from the state earlier this year.

County officials are working to develop the area around the fairgrounds, including recent developments such as Love's Truck Stop and the Prime Ohio II industrial park.

The modernization of the fairgrounds was listed as one of Clark County's strategic planning goals last year, according to the release.

Demolition of the buildings is expected to begin in the coming weeks.

The land bank will immediately begin marketing the site to potential developers.
