Greene County deputies, OSP to continue search for missing Yellow Springs woman

UPDATE @ 4:11 a.m. (Oct. 23):

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the search had to be called off due to poor lighting conditions and dangerous terrain.

Reports indicate the search will begin again at daylight.

The woman has been identified as Margaret “Peg” Champney.

She is 87 years old and lives in Yellow Springs.

UPDATE @ 12:30 a.m. (Oct. 23): Ohio State Highway Patrol helicopter, dispatched out of Columbus, is helping in the search, a sergeant with the Xenia post said.

News Center 7 also is hearing that some area law enforcement agencies are sending K-9 units to help as well.

The area being searched is believed to be along East Hyde Road near the Robert P. Eastman Covered Bridge.

The sheriff's office is asking area residents to check your property and call the sheriff's office at 937-376-5111 if you find anything that would aid in the search.

A search for a missing elderly woman is continuing tonight in Yellow Springs.

Greene County Sheriff's deputies are using rescue dogs, drones and a helicopter in their search of an area off Hyde Road near a covered bridge, Sheriff's Maj. Shawn Prall said.

The operation has been ongoing since at least 9 p.m.

News Center 7 is hearing the search team has found a jacket, with a cell phone inside, in an open field.
