18-year-old suffers serious injuries in Shelby County crash

An 18-year-old Sidney man suffered serious injuries after crashing his car into a semi loaded with scrap metal near New Breman in Shelby County.

Emergency crews responded to the accident where the car was on fire at the intersection of state routes 274 and 29 around 6:40 a.m. Initial reports indicated the driver was trapped in the car.

Witnesses on scene said the car, driven by the 18-year-old, was traveling at a high-rate of speed when it went through a stop sign and struck the semi.

The semi came within less than ten feet of hitting a house.

The driver of the semi was not hurt, according to officials on scene.

The 18-year-old man, who has not been identified, was taken to Joint Township Memorial Hospital in St. Marys.

State routes 274 at 29 is closed and will be for a while, according to officials.

Shelby County Sheriff’s Department handled the accident. Mutual aid from surrounding agencies was initially requested.
